How do I add my email to iOS (iPhone/iPad)?

To add your email account you need the following information at hand:

  • If the account was setup by
DO Solutions you would have received a document with settings and passwords, otherwise you need
  • Email address ([email protected])
  • Password

Step-by-step

Follow this steps, replacing ‘yourdomain.com’ with your own domain name (below you can access this tutorial as a video on YouTube):

  1. Open ‘Settings‘ on your device
  2. Open ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  3. Tap ‘Add Account
  4. Tap ‘Other
  5. Tap ‘Add Mail Account
5.1 Name: Fill in your name (First Last, this is the name displayed to recipients when you send emails)
    5.2 Email: Your email address
    5.3 Password: Your password
5.4 Description: This is a description that will show in the Mail app and is only for your reference
  6. Tap next to Host Name for Incoming Mail Server and enter
6.1 Host Name: mail.yourdomain.com (replacing ‘yourdomain.com’ with your own domain name) or use ‘yourdomain.com’ if you are using SSL and experience issues authenticating with the server (and not being able to send or receive)
6.2 User Name: enter your email address ([email protected])
6.3 Password: password according to documentation or the password used when you setup the account in cPanel
  7. Tap ‘Next‘, your account will now be verified with the server, this can take some time
7.1 If you receive an error message stating ‘Cannot Verify Server Identity’ this is because the device is trying to connect securely using SSL and since you are on a shared web server it will use a general certificate for the server (*.hosting-service.net.au). You can safely tap ‘Continue
  8. Turn OFF ‘Notes’, it is recommended that you only use Notes with your iCloud account and not for any other accounts as this will keep your Notes gathered in one place instead of spread out
  9. Tap on the new ‘Account‘, we are now going to make sure that your sub-folders will sync properly with the server and not stay locally on your device (so that your emails will sync between all your devices, laptops etc)
9.1 Tap ‘Advanced‘ and in ‘Mailbox Behaviors’ tap each of these folders
9.1.1 Drafts Mailbox -> make sure the ‘Drafts’ folder is ticked on the server and not ‘On My iPhone/iPad’
9.1.2 Sent Mailbox -> make sure the ‘Sent’ folder is ticked on the server and not ‘On My iPhone/iPad’
9.1.1 Deleted Mailbox -> make sure the ‘Trash’ folder is ticked on the server and not ‘On My iPhone/iPad’
9.1.1 Archive Mailbox -> make sure the ‘Archive’ folder is ticked on the server and not ‘On My iPhone/iPad’
9.2 ‘Move Discarded Messages Into’, choose ‘Deleted Mailbox
9.3 ‘Deleted Messages’, choose Remove ‘After one month’ (this will tell the mail server to flag any deleted messages on the server for deletion after one month)
9.4 Check the following for ‘Incoming Settings
9.4.1 ‘Use SSL‘ is turned ON
9.4.2 ‘Authentication‘ is set to ‘Password’
9.4.3 ‘IMAP Path Prefix‘ is set to ‘/’
9.4.4 ‘Server Port‘ is set to ‘993’
9.4.5 Tap ‘Done‘ to save your changes!
9.5 Go back to to ‘Account’ and tap ‘SMTP‘ to check your ‘Outgoing Mail Server‘ settings
9.5.1 Tap mail.yourdomain.com under ‘Primary Server’
9.5.2 Check that ‘Server‘ is turned ON
9.5.3 ‘Host Name‘ is set to ‘mail.yourdomain.com’ or ‘yourdomain.com’ if you are using SSL and experience issues authenticating with the server (and not being able to send or receive)
9.5.4 ‘User Name‘  is set to ‘[email protected]
    9.5.5 ‘Password‘ is set
9.5.6 ‘Use SSL‘ is set ‘ON’
9.5.7 ‘Authentication‘ is set to ‘Password’
9.5.8 ‘Server Port‘ is set to ‘587’ alternatively ‘465’
  10. Tip: If you experience issues sending emails from your device after OS updates follow step 9.5 and re-enter the password as it often clears during updates.
    You are now DONE!
